National Support Services
We have collated many national and local specialist services to help those affected by domestic abuse.
They include services for victim-survivors, but also for family and friends, perpetrators, and children living with domestic abuse.
If you would like to tell us about a service we don’t have here, please send us an email at: contact@reducingtherisk.org.uk
Reducing the Risk acknowledges that there is not a ‘one model fits all’ approach to supporting those experiencing abuse, and people’s age, ability, gender, race, ethnicity, sexuality, and intersectionality of these, may all affect how a victim-survivor accesses help. Therefore, we have listed a number of services available for those facing additional challenges and barriers to seeking support.

Keeping Pets Safe
Our pets become members of our family and can often make the difference between staying in an abusive relationship and leaving. Animals can also be used by perpetrators to maintain control and sadly this means sometimes animals suffer to ensure humans comply. This video from Australia highlights some of the complexities involved, as often where animals are abused, humans are at risk, and vice versa.
It may be that a victim experiencing abuse needs someone to look after their pet until they are able to find suitable and safe housing, or when they have to leave in a hurry. If the victim does want to leave the relationship but has concerns about what will happen to the pet there may be a service that can help.

The Respect website provides lots of useful information to help you recognise your abusive behaviour and suggests ways you can tackle it. This website is not designed as an alternative to a specialist behaviour-change programme but if you get in touch, Respect offers information, advice and guidance to people exhibiting abusive behaviours. They also run a free and confidential helpline offering information and advice to people who are abusive towards their partners and want help to stop.
