Shout and Project Hope

In partnership with Shout, we are launching a mental health text service, Project Hope, to support the mental health of those impacted by Domestic Abuse across Thames Valley.

Shout is the UK’s only confidential, 24/7 text-based mental health support service. In five years, Shout volunteers have supported over 1 million people through more than 3 million conversations about issues such as suicide, depression, anxiety, self-harm, grief, loneliness, relationships and home life.

Project Hope is an inclusive, non-judgmental service. We welcome anyone in the Thames Valley whose mental health is affected by domestic abuse – whatever your age, gender, sexuality, disability, ethnicity, faith, immigration status or background.

Shout’s trained, DA-aware mental health clinicians will listen, believe you and respect your identity and experiences, so you can access support in a way that feels safe and right for you.

This service is available for victims, perpetrators, family members and young people impacted by domestic abuse at home across Thames Valley.

The abuse may be happening now or happened in the past, no matter how long ago. We know domestic abuse leaves a long shadow, and we want to make sure support for your mental health is always available.

If you require advice relating to domestic abuse please call the national helpline or victims first hub.

The ultimate aims for the service will be:

  • To provide 24/7, easily accessible text-based mental heath support for people experiencing domestic abuse whose mental health is affected, including those feeling overwhelmed, hopeless or suicidal.

  • To give practitioners a clear, trusted text service to direct those impacted by domestic abuse, so they can quickly access safe, specialist mental health support when they need it.

  • To increase awareness and understanding of how domestic abuse harms mental health and can lead to suicidal feelings, so concerns are recognised earlier and people are supported safely through the text service and wider pathways.
