Supporting the Military Community

Reducing the Risk is working closely with Armed Forces communities across Oxfordshire to ensure that serving personnel, and their families have clear and trusted routes to specialist domestic abuse support. We know that military life can bring unique pressures, and we are here to make sure no one faces abuse alone.

If you or someone you know is in immediate danger, please call 999

Domestic abuse affects 16.5% of the military population

Military Torchbearer project

Our Military Torchbearer project brings together community awareness and training, including for military-adjacent organisations such as health, housing, schools, chaplaincies and others who provide support to the military community. By empowering partners and raising awareness across these networks, we are creating safer environments where abuse can be recognised early and addressed effectively.

We have launched Signpost sessions, offering safe, one-to-one initial conversations. These provide space to talk, ask questions, and be directed to the most appropriate type of support. If there isn’t one in your area, please complete the enclosed referral form and we will be in contact.

Dedicated Military Independent Domestic Violence Advisor (IDVA)

At the heart of the project is our dedicated Military Independent Domestic Violence Advisor (IDVA). With an understanding of both military and family life, she provides confidential support and guidance and can connect individuals to ongoing support and advice.

With the support of the Armed Forces Covenant Trust Fund, this project is building awareness, trust, and long-term systems of support for military families affected by domestic abuse.
