I started volunteering with Reducing the Risk in September 2023, it’s a cause that I feel very passionate about. I started volunteering because I wanted to help spread awareness about what domestic abuse is, and how it can affect anybody and everybody.

I have loved going out to events with Emma, being able to speak to people about the charity and what we do has been fantastic and seeing so many people take interest and take the time to listen and engage has been brilliant. RtR is a charity that is very close to my heart for many reasons, and being able to support it and see it grow has been one of the best things I’ve ever done.

I’m always surprised when speaking to younger people that they already know so much about domestic abuse, but at the same time, I’m able to inform them on the different types of abuse and who it may affect. One of the things I’ve become very proud of since starting to volunteer with RTR is having the knowledge to speak to people, even outside of events, about what we do, who we are, how we help and getting people on board with our community DA Friends programme.

Volunteering with RtR has been one of the best and most rewarding things I’ve ever done, there’s nothing quite like the feeling of spreading awareness and knowing that what you’re doing may help even just one person.
